Baratti Gulf and Populonia Tour

This is the place where you can breathe the history of the Etruscan Coast, this community came here in the IX century before Christ. A community that used to work the iron, the protagonist of this area.

The Etruscan were rich and important, they built here the acropolis and the graveyards, remains still visibles thanks to the creation of the archaeological park of Baratti and Populonia. A place rich in history and tradition, that after a period of decline after the conquer of the Romans, manages to revive. First as a diocese and after as a Medieval castle.

We will visit all of these beauties during our tour: one of the two graveyards, at your choice.

The most ancient graveyard of IX – VIII century is San Cerbone area, that is located along the coast and easily accessible, or the graveyard of Grotte, made of hypogeum graveyard (directly dug up in the rocks). This is located in the woods and it’s possible to visit thanks to a fantastic path that brings you to the Mediterranean spot.

The visit will conclude with the tour of the little Medieval village, situated on the hill of Populonia, where the Etruscan, built the acropolis. The Castle was built around 1300, then it entered in 1400 in the princedom of Piombino, erected by the Appiani family of Pisa.

The first site to visit will be the Central fortress, created to control the coast from the pirate attacks, a fortress that will give you a fantastic view of the Tuscan archipelago.
