Bolgheri Wine Tour

It’s a top place when one speaks about wine.

The history of this area is not so old under the wine perspective. Its history began in the middle of ‘900. Since that time it has become one of the most important areas thanks to the wines called “Super Tuscan“. This territory is not so wide, it has just 1200 hectares. Here you can find a lot of important names such as Mario Incisa della Rocchetta with its Sassicaia, the best cabernet sauvignon in the world or the Antinori family with their estates of Guardo al Tasso and Ornellaia.

There are also other small and less famous wine cellars, that help make this territory unique. Let’s focus now on what will make the tourist speechless: the street that brings you to the Castle of Bolgheri, the famous street of San Guido. The Italian poet Giosuè Carducci, Nobel Prize winner for literature, lived here for 9 years, during his childhood. He lived with his family and his beloved grandmother Lucia, to whom is dedicated the poem “In front of San Guido”. A lovely, full of memory poem.

You will visit with me the little village inside the walls with Longobards origins but rebuilt several times due to the various attacks under the medieval period. The aspect, in fact, is made of remakes, the last one made in the XVIII century. The castle has been the property of the Gherardesca family, noble family of Pisa. It’s not possible to visit the castle inside because it’s a private house. We will visit the little centre, characterised by narrow streets, typical shops with local products, restaurants and wineries.

The tour will continue searching for the most famous wine cellars along the street that links Bolgheri to Castagneto Carducci, the famous and fascinating road called The Street Of Wine Of The Etruscan Coast. A boulevard that crosses vineyards of real beauty, where is possible to admire the amazing landscape, from the vignards to the sea.  All the enterprises, more than 50, are located here and it’s in one of these, that we will have the visit of the estate and a good wine tasting.
